Spring Break 2014

This year for Spring Break we were somewhat limited in our choices. I really wanted to head to Colorado or Utah and get Rommey on skis for the first time but it just wasn't possible. Instead, we took a trip to San Diego. That's kind of become our "go to" place while living in Blythe. We are generally able to get there every other month or so for a couple of days.

This time we stayed at Humphrey's Half Moon Inn & Suites on Shelter Island. It was a nice place to stay and very convenient in terms of going out to do things. We ended up staying in San Diego for four nights. While we were there we went to the aquarium at Scripps. We also went to Ocean Beach and just hung out at the beach and we went to La Jolla and went to the beach there. It was generally a pretty relaxing time.

Rommey loved swimming in the pool at the hotel too.

Sunday Snapshot {Purple Fairy Soccer Player}

It's been a while since I've posted a Sunday Snapshot so I figured it was about time. :-)

In Blythe, CA the temperatures continue to rise with days in the 80's and 90's. Not looking forward to our 100+ temps in a month or two.

Right now we're enjoying these slightly cooler (by comparison to 100's) temps and spending time outside. We've been getting out Rommey's water mat and the sprinkler to stay cool. We've also just been relaxing and playing outside.

The other day, Rommey got out her fairy wings and tutu (she calls them her butterfly wings and she can actually say "tutu" too) and ran around the yard. She eventually came across the soccer ball and became a purple fairy soccer player.

Her favorite shirt lately is her purple rainbow shirt.

Sunday Snapshot {The River}

Today was another sunny day in sunny southern California. The temperatures weren't too hot... in the upper 70's to low 80's, so we decided to go to the river. Blythe is right on the Colorado River. We didn't stay for long but Rommey did get to spend some time playing in the little pools and shallow flows. During the middle of the summer, the area that she was playing in is all sand and the river is further out. Today there was still lots of sand but the water was closer too. We discovered that this time of year is actually a really great time to go to the river.

Anyhoo... I decided to take my camera along and snap some pictures of Rommey playing. Enjoy.

See in the distance where the sand touches the water? In the summer, everything up to that point is sand. This section is a large beach in the summer.

Sunday Snapshot {Bubbles}

The other day when we went to Walmart, I came across one of those automatic bubble blowers. Rommey LOVES bubbles so I had to get it! She had so much fun playing around with it and chasing the bubbles!

Sunday Snapshot {A Typical Weekend in Blythe, CA}

Well, now that we're living in the middle of the desert, where the weather is pretty much always hot, we tend to spend a lot of time playing in the water. Unfortunately, the only adult size water is the Colorado River (which is pretty low right now) or driving 2 hours to Lake Havasu (which we haven't done yet). Fortunately, we have a kiddie pool and a hose so at least Rommey can play in the water and fortunately right now the highs are generally in the 70s or 80s compared to over 100 in the summer so it's not too uncomfortable for us adults right now.

Today she really had fun in the kiddie pool!

There was sliding into the pool....

She also loved taking pails of water out of the pool and watering the "grass."

Once she dumped the water, she HAD to splash in it.

Then her car needed to be washed.

Then she decided she didn't want it in the pool anymore. :-)

She also took a little time to wash her Hot Wheels car.

Sunday Snapshot {A New Camera}

Well, this was an interesting Sunday Snapshot day. I just got my first DSLR camera! It's a basic model... the Nikon D3200. Since this is an older model, the store had it on sale at a great price!

We went to San Diego this weekend and I REALLY wanted to take some beach pictures of Rommey but unfortunately, the camera battery needed to be charged before I could take any pictures and we needed to head back to Blythe. So, my Sunday Snapshot pictures ended up being taken when she was in the bathtub tonight instead.

I'm still playing around with how to use the camera, particularly the Manual, Aperture, Shutter Speed and Program modes but the basic settings are working great for me. :-) Most of these pictures were taken using either the Portrait or Child setting.

To end the evening, Rommey wanted to play with my iPhone for a little bit.

Sunday Snapshot {Christmas 2013}

Christmas this year was a bit different than usual. Since we moved to Blythe, California in August, we weren't really able to travel back to Michigan to see family. So, we spent Christmas this year in San Diego. We decided to take a 4 night trip to San Diego and go to the San Diego Zoo and the Air & Space Museum in San Diego. It was some well spent, quality family time (even though it was just the three of us).

Rommey enjoyed the animals and the AirTram ride at the zoo. She also thought it was pretty cool to get inside the helicopter and planes at the museum.

We also made a big announcement. We're expecting #2 in July! Rommey will be a big sister!

Licking the frosting off the cookies was more fun than decorating them.

In front of the tree at the hotel, in her fancy new Christmas outfit.
